Nationals Updates

7.5.2009 Congratulations to all of our seniors moving on to play collegiately. Circle City leads Indiana and is one of the top clubs in the country with 20 girls moving on to play at the next level. Whether the girls started with us at 12 & Under, or joined us later, we really appreciate all of you and wish all of you good luck in college.

Congratulation to 15 Purple & 18 Purple on outstanding finishes at USAV Nationals. 18 Purple competed in the 18 Open Division against the top 18 year old teams from all over the country. After winning an intense five game match versus the #2 seed in the tournament on the third night of play, Circle had to turn around and play at 8am in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately they came up a bit short and bowed out in 5th place. Long time Circle City Girl, Katie Griffin, capped off her club career by making the 18 Open All-Tournament Team. Katie was outstanding through out the tournament but ALL of the players on 18 Purple made them one of the best teams in the country.

15 Purple came in the the tournament as the #4 seed in the 48 team 15 National Division and showed why they earned such a high seed. After winning two intense three game matches, Circle fell to eventual National Champs Laguna Beach in the semi's and finished in third place, taking home the bronze medal. Both Cassie Annee and Hadley Orr earned All-Tournament recognition.

Weekend Update

5.24.2009 Congratulations to the following teams for great weekends at the Circle City Invite.  In the 17/18 Open Division, Circle City 18-Elite went 6-1 and finished 2nd and Circle City 18-Mizuno went 5-2 and finished 3rd.  In the 16 Club Division, 16-Black finished 2nd.  In the 15 Silver Division, 15-White finished first in the 13 team field while 15-Liptak finished 3rd.  In the 12's Division, Circle City 12-Purple finished 3rd.  What a great weekend for all of our teams.  Katie Griffin

Congratulations Circle City 18-Purple on winning the National Junior Classic held in Aurora Illinois at Sports Performance VBC! Playing in one of the premier events in the country, Circle City came home victorious going undefeated at the three day event. This was a great tuneup for Nationals where 18-Purple will compete in the 18 Open Division and hopefully make a run at a National Championship. Libero Carly Cramer was MVP of the tournament and Rachel Brown took home the best setter award. The complete results and all tournament selections can be found at

Katie Griffin3.19.2009 Congratulations to Katie Griffin of 18-Purple for being named to Volleyball Magazine's FAB 50. This award recognizes the top 50 seniors in the country. Congrats KG!

Weekend Update

4.21.2009 Congratulations to Circle City 18 Purple and Circle City 18 Mizuno. Both had outstanding weekends at the Northeast Qualifier. 18 Mizuno finished 5th in the 18 Club Division out of 88 teams. In the quarterfinals they lost to the eventual Champions Texas Advantage. Circle City 18 Purple continued to show why they are regarded as one of the top teams in the country, double qualifying for the 18 Open Division of Nationals with a 2nd place finish, losing in the finals 19-17 in the third game. This makes 18 Purple one of only five teams to have two top three qualifier finishes. 18 Molten also had a fine weekend finishing 4-4 while competing in the 18 club division.

3.22.2009 Coach Marianne Orr's 18 Elite team had a great weekend at the Colorado Crossroad's Qualifier finishing T9th in the 102 team 18 Club field. On the 2nd day of the qualifier 18 Elite upset the #1 seed in the tournament and put themselves in a great position to make a run at the title. Unfortunately they ran into a very tough Topeka Elite team and bowed out in the first round of the Gold Bracket.

Joining 18 Elite in Colorado was 17 Purple. 17 Purple had a fine weekend finishing 15th in the 40 team 17 Open Field.

Congrats to the following teams on a great weekend at the Midwest Power League #3:
Circle City 18 Molten won the 18 & Under Division and 16 Black won the 17 & Under Division. 17 Black finished 3rd in the 18 & Under Division and 12 White finished 3-1 and also claimed 3rd place.

3.8.2009 Congratulations to Circle City 18 Purple ("The Blast") on qualifying for the 18 Open Division of USAV Nationals. This past weekend at The Mideast Qualifier 18 Purple went 8-1 and finished 3rd. After losing an incredible 3 game match in the semi-finals to eventual Champions Mizuno M1, 18 Purple was able to rebound and win the 3rd place match two games to zero versus KC Extreme. Despite breaking her hand in the semi-final match, setter Rachel Brown toughed it out and led "The Blast" in the 3rd place match. There are ten qualifiers placed around the country. Nine of those qualifiers give out 3 open bids and the tenth qualifier gives one open bid. Eventually this will lead to the top 28 teams in the country competing in The Open Division at USAV Nationals. This is the 24th time in 25 years that Circle City 18-1’s have qualified for the top level of USAV Nationals.

We would also like to congratulate 16 Black on their great run at the Mideast Qualifier. In the 156 team 16 Club field, they were able to make it to the Gold Bracket and tie for 17th place. 18 Mizuno finished 37th in the 128 team 18 Club field. 18 Elite had a slow start to the tournament but came back strong and finished 7-2 on the weekend. 17 Purple rebounded from a heart breaking 3 game loss to finish 7-2 on the weekend and finish in 33rd place. 17 Black had a fine showing finishing 57th in the 128 team field. 16 Purple started slow on the weekend but ended up 5-3 in the 16 Open Division.

2.3.09: Congratulations to 16 White on winning the Nitro Open, winning their last match in two games to claim the title. 17 White also competed in the Nitro Open taking home third place. 13 Black finished off the teams competing in the Nitro Open going 4 and 4 in games and claiming 4th place. 14 White, coming off a third place finish last weekend, continued their good play with a 2nd place finish in the Silver Division of the IVA Mini. Both 12 Purple and 12 Black competed in the Ice Breaker in Louisville. 12 Purple took home 5th place and 12 Black finished right behind them in 6th.

2.2.09: Congratulations to the Circle City 17s and 18s teams this past weekend in the Central Zone Invite. Competing against some of the top teams in not only the midwest, but in the country, Circle City had a great weekend.

Circle City 18 Purple (The Blast) went undefeated and didn't drop a game on it's way to capturing the 18 Open Championship. This makes two straight tournament wins for "The Blast" without dropping a match. Also a congratulations to Circle City 18 Elite on their 3rd place finish in the 18 Club division. They had not lost a match in the two day event before falling in the semi finals. Circle City 18 Mizuno continued it's good run of play with a 5th place finish in the 18 Club division. They had also not lost a match before losing in the quarterfinals. Circle City 18 Molten competed hard and lost some very close matches while playing short handed for much of the weekend. They finished 19th in the 18 Club division.

Circle City 17 Purple has shown some great improvement early in the season while finishing 5th in the 17 Open Division. In the first round of the Gold Division 17 Purple lost a very tight match in 3 games to Celtic Force 17 Green. In the 17 Club Division Circle City 17 Black finished in 14th place. In the pool where they got eliminated from contention they lost to eventual champions KIVA 17 White in a highly contested match.

11.18.08: Congratulations to Senior Katie Griffin for being named one of the Top 100 Seniors in the Nation!
#32 - One of the best players in a great 2009 class in the state of Indiana, Griffin’s skills are very advanced for a senior in high school. Playing against older athletes during her club career has been beneficial and has allowed Griffin to develop quickly. A well-rounded athlete who is one of the state’s best shot-blockers in basketball, Griffin has played every front-row position and will bring versatility to her college team. Griffin’s strengths are her outstanding skills in each phase of the game – she is a crafty attacker who’s had to face and defeat double blocks throughout her career-- but more crucial might be her on-court presence and mature leadership. Look for Griffin to make a positive impact at Purdue University, where she has committed. Courtesy of

Another congratulations goes to Senior Shea Doran for being named one of the Top 250 Seniors in the Nation! What an accomplishment for both girls. The Squirrels are invading the nation!
