Kristine Wheeler "Wheels" Deem started as a player for Circle City in 1995 and is now an Assistant Club Director. In 2014, she coached the 18 Purple team through a very successful season, winning both the Nike Mideast Qualifier and the Big South Qualifier. They completed their season with a 3rd place finish at USAV Junior Nationals only losing one match to the eventual Winner, Coast 18 Mizuno out of Southern California. In 2013, she coached the 16 Purple team as they finished 3rd in the Central Zone Invitational, 1st in the Central Zone Championships, 2nd at the President’s Day Classic in St. Louis , and 4th at MEQ in the Open Division. Wheels' 16s also had 1st place finishes while competing in the 18s division for the Indy Jrs Classic and the Circle City Invitational, and finished 11th at the USAV Junior National Championships after earning a bid in the Open Division.
Wheels returned to Circle City after 2 years of coaching at Saint Joseph 's College. She joined the Pumas in the summer of 2010 and was responsible for the volleyball strength & conditioning programs as well as defense & setter training. While at SJC, Wheels coached club in the Lafayette area for Performance Point and Lafayette Area Volleyball Academy respectively.
Prior to coaching at Saint Joe, Kristine coached club for 7 years with the Evansville River City and Circle City Volleyball Clubs. She was also a positional coach for Circle City working closely with defensive specialists and setters. In her previous four years here at Circle City , Wheels qualified 3 teams to USAV Junior National Championships. She spent the 2008 season as the assistant coach at IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis). She worked primarily with the defense and outside hitters. In her time at IUPUI, Wheels lead the Jaguars to a 4th place finish in the Summit League as well as an NCAA Division I first place ranking in Digs per Set as well as Digs per Match. Wheels has also coached high school volleyball, two years for Evansville Reitz and one for Zionsville Community.
In her collegiate playing career, Wheels was a team captain and three-year starter for the University of Southern Indiana . She helped USI to one outright regular season GLVC Championship and two GLVC Tournament Championships, in addition to 2 NCAA Division II tournament berths in 2002 & 2004. While at USI, Wheels' defense helped the Screaming Eagles to a 93-34 (.732) overall record. USI posted a 45-14 (.763) record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in her four seasons. In 2004 & 2005, Wheels founded Southern Select Volleyball Camp, a summer satellite camp traveling to numerous high schools in the Southern Indiana and Kentucky areas. Wheels has also coached at camps for Notre Dame, Purdue , Michigan State, USI, and Saint Joseph's College.
Kristine married Jay Deem in the summer of 2014. They reside in Indianapolis with their dog, Scrappy.
